Desert Dweller

 

The Desert Dweller series was inspired by the color schemes found on the Mac OS X update that showed an illustrated beach landscape going between three major color styles. I created this landscape design with the intent on showing off different times of day in the same place. This triptych color study shows off the desert in the heat of the day, at dusk, and in the dead of night.

This is the original sketch that helped determine the style and general layout of the illustration. This pencil sketch created a strong foundation that I moved forward with to turn into a grand study of color and creation.
Desert Dweller 1 shows off a bright and vibrant color scheme to give off the impression that these dune structures are being viewed in the heat of the day. With colors similar to the bright sky, these warm tones give off the heat of the day.
Desert Dweller 3 features the same landscape of dunes under a night sky and red moon. This color study shows off the night wrapping the scene in silence.
Desert Dweller 2 shows a more somber and magical time of day. As the sun begins to set, the world becomes more calm and wrapped in an almost monochromatic tone of lavenders and contrasting oranges that make the scenic landscape feel less hot and more
